This psychology study aims to investigate cultural and gendered attitudes to singing as part of a larger interdisciplinary project on Access to Music Education.
Who can participate?
- We are seeking 300 participants with a Canadian or Chinese background.
- Participants must be adults (18+) who have lived in Canada.
- All genders may participate, and we especially encourage men and those who identify as transgender and/or nonbinary to participate.
- Although our research is about singing, it’s important for us to hear from people with a variety of experiences, including people who don't enjoy singing often!
The study has 2 parts.
- Part 1: a brief questionnaire about your musical tastes, preferences, and experiences. (25 minutes)
- Part 2: an optional online singing and speaking task. (45 minutes)
Completing Part 1 will automatically enter you into a draw for a 1 in 50 chance to win a $30 gift card. If you proceed to complete Part 2, you will be entered into an additional draw for a 1 in 50 chance to win a $50 gift card.
The study does not take long! It can be completed at home on your personal computer at your own pace. All the data we collect is anonymized to keep confidentiality.
